Three Abdominal Workout Myths Busted
Go to any gym and I guarantee that you will witness men and women pushing themselves to the limit with one ultimate goal in mind - perfect, tight abdominals. The weird thing is that for the majority of people, the way they approach their ab training contributes very little to achieving their goal of having a great set of abs.
There are a lot of myths surrounding how you can build a perfect set of abdominals. Following these myths creates a lot of frustrated people who keep wasting their time with exercise techniques that simply have nothing to do with abdominal development and definition. Misinformation is the great ?enemy? that will cause any of us to spin our wheels for months or even years and eventually give up on our goal to abdominal perfection.
One of the biggest myths is that the more you train your abs and the more sit ups you do, the more chances you have of your abs showing. How very wrong! The fat that has accumulated over your abdominal muscles over the years will not dissipate with an excess of abdominal exercises and countless reps.
Exercising your abs can definitely help tone and strengthen them but it has nothing to do with the loss of fat that surrounds them. What?s also very important is that your abs need to recover from the strenuous training, just as any other muscle on your body does. If you train your abs every day, you will end up overtraining, which can result in injury. To strip the fat off your abs you need to go on a good fat burning nutrition plan and cardio training regime. Combine that with a good abdominal exercise program and your abs will show up faster than you thought possible.
Another big myth is that you need to do a ton of sit-ups. Wrong again! Sit ups are one of the least effective abdominal training exercises and as mentioned before has nothing to do with abdominal definition. It?s quite ironic that the most popular abdominal exercise of all time is also the least effective but can also be dangerous for some people under certain circumstances. Done incorrectly and with high frequency, the sit-up can lead to lower back problems and a strength imbalance between the iliapsoas muscle and the abdominals. There are countless abdominal exercises that you can do that are much more effective and far less strenuous than the sit-up!
The last most common myth about abdominal development is that you can get really good abs with a really poor diet. Nutrition is without a question the most important factor on your quest to get an amazing looking six-pack of abs. If you do not pay close attention to your caloric intake, and your macronutrient breakdown, your abdominal definition will suffer greatly.
Surely you will get some results if you are a beginner or have a very fast metabolism but these results will eventually slow down and you will stop getting good results. One of the secrets to having great abs is to have a great diet plan. Watch your diet, do healthy amounts of cardiovascular exercise, and your abs will start shinning through before you know it.
With that said, do not fall prey to these myths. Get creative with your abdominal training routines and try different exercises and training programs. Also, find out how to structure your diet for fat loss and which foods you should be eating in order to strip the fat off your midsection. Getting great abs is not an easy task but it definitely is highly rewarding! Most of all however, never give up on your goal of having great abdominals. You will really feel an amazing sense of achievement when you get there.
