"Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions." ~ Albert Einstein.
Perhaps you don't think you have a very vivid imagination; my belief is that you've just simply forgotten how to use it!
We all think in images and words. Consider babies. They identify their mothers in at least four ways: seeing, feeling, smelling or hearing. Babies don't have words to associate with these images. Thinking in images is the natural way our brains process information, but we learn language and use it as we get older.
If you're having difficulties imagining yourself at your ideal weight, begin with small steps. See yourself zipping up your pants without sucking in your tummy, imagine your face without the double chin, see yourself walking easily, etc. Begin with a small area of your body and then move to getting the whole body image.
1. Use a Photo
This is a great way to get your imagination flowing. Get a photo of yourself at a weight you felt really good. If you don't have one, go through a magazine and find a realistic picture of how you'd like to look and put your face on the body. Look at this picture daily; focus your eyes on the image and then close them and see, feel and imagine this image in your mind as though this is what you look like right now. Be tenacious and work on creating that image in your mind.
2. Use the Power of Imagery
Intentionally use the power of imagery/visualizations and weight loss every day. Feel yourself at your ideal weight; see yourself doing activities you've only dreamt of. Try and do this at least a couple of times a day, starting with first thing in the morning. Let your imagination run free!
3. Use Imagery to Solve Problems
Imagery/creative visualization is an excellent tool for solving problems. This creative process has been neglected in all areas of learning. When you visualize or imagine being successful in all areas of your life-weight loss, financial, relationships, etc. - you'll attract success and achieve your goals.
4. Use Meditation & Visualization
Do a mini meditation combined with imagery/visualization and you have an incredibly powerful tool that will keep you focused. Close your eyes, breath even and deep with your belly soft, and relax all the muscles from your jaw to your toes. Don't let distractions muddy your thoughts; clearly begin to visualize yourself living the life you deserve and desire.
5. Use Visual Reminders
A good idea is to make photocopies of your picture at your ideal weight and use them as visual reminders around your home, on the bathroom mirror and the fridge, and at the office on your computer. This will remind you to stay focused. You can also post positive affirmations along with the picture of you at your ideal weight.
Using these visualization exercises will help you start building the belief that you can achieve your ideal weight and finally have permanent weight loss. Truly having the belief that you can do it is the first step to making your goal a reality! If you believe you can, you can and will succeed.
